FORT INDIANTOWN GAP - A 38-year-old woman died Monday afternoon after her car struck a utility pole off Moonshine Road in Union Township.

The woman, whose name is being withheld pending the notification of her relatives, was traveling east on Moonshine Road, also known as Route 443, just east of Chestnut Road, about 12:20 p.m. when she lost control of her 1995 Oldsmobile sedan while negotiating a left-hand curve, state police at Jonestown said. The vehicle spun clockwise while sliding sideways before striking the utility pole near the driver's-side door.

The impact caused the utility pole to sever in half, bringing down electrical wires.

The woman was declared dead at the scene by a representative from the Lebanon County coroner's office.

The investigation continued for hours, and the road remained closed until late in the afternoon. Assisting at the scene were the Fort Indiantown Gap and Jonestown Perseverance fire companies and Dublin EMS.

The unnamed victim was the 10th person to die as a result of crashes on Lebanon County roads this year, according to Lebanon Daily News records.Anyone with further information regarding the crash is asked to call state police at the Jonestown barracks at 717-865-2194.
