GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) ? Dozens of North Carolina college students are competing to see who wants to build a better world with profits generated by socially sensitive companies.
The competition involving the 17 University of North Carolina schools is scheduled for Thursday at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
Competing teams are presenting business plans that address social issues in their communities. Teams submitted proposals ranging from using video games to retrain the unemployed to developing local food markets in poor communities.
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is the headline speaker for the Greensboro competition. He headlines similar competitions in Washington, D.C., and Portland, Ore.
Yunus pioneered the concept that smart lending to the very poor who want to start small businesses can break the cycle of poverty in their communities.
