In mid-November, the same weekend that Nascar's Chase for the Sprint Cup series came to a close at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, a very different kind of race was taking place at a brand-new track in Austin, Texas. The Formula One United States Grand Prix has not been held since 2007, and naysayers may yawn that the expensive, twisty, turny, highly technical F1 racing that is so popular around the world can't succeed in the States. The sport reached its peak relevance in the U.S. in the '60s and early '70s when the Grand Prix took place at Watkins Glen and American drivers such as Dan Gurney competed with Europe's best. The $350 million Circuit of the Americas (COTA) track in Austin, Texas, is a big and bold argument that F1 can bring back American crowds. And COTA is well-positioned to succeed where past efforts have failed.
The track is an all-in bet on F1. Past U.S. courses, such as Indianapolis from 2000 to 2007, have repurposed oval tracks, but COTA is purpose-built for F1. It's a thrilling circuit, with blind ?rises; a huge, 200-mph straight that dumps into a reversing-apex corner at turn 12; and scads of space to pass. Fireworks flew in the inaugural contest, with constant midpack passes and drivers sliding all over (and off) the track. McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton proved the best tactician, out-braking other drivers through corners and sneaking by F1 points leader? Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull/Renault-Infiniti to win the race.
Lasting success for the sport in the States largely depends on whether American racing fans will geek out to the engineering behind cars that have tiny, 2.4-liter hybrid-assist V-8s that rev to 18,000 rpm and can push a car from 0 to 60 in under 2 seconds. But on race day 117,000 people paid an average of $400 to attend the sold-out contest. What's still missing? American drivers and teams. If F1 maintains a foothold in the U.S., that will likely change. With all the investment in the COTA track and talk of another? circuit in Weehawken, N.J., in 2014 Formula One racing in the U.S. seems to be trending up rather than out.
The Catholic Church in England and Wales has made a surprising acknowledgement that same-sex couples make good parents. The statement is included within a document submitted to MPs and Peers urging them vote against same-sex marriage.
The document says: ?We recognise that many same sex couples raise children in loving and caring homes. Nevertheless, marriage has an identity that at its core is distinct from any other legally recognised relationship, no matter how much love or commitment may be involved in these other relationships.
?Marriage has, over the centuries, been the enduring public recognition of this commitment to provide a stable institution for the care and protection of children, and it has rightly been recognised as unique and worthy of legal protection for this reason.
?Marriage furthers the common good of society because it promotes a unique relationship within which children are conceived, born and reared, an institution that we believe benefits children.?
Despite acknowledging that same-sex couples have children and that not all heterosexual couples chose to or can have children, the document claims that changing the law will break the??existing legal link between the institution of marriage and sexual exclusivity, loyalty, and responsibility for the children of the marriage.?
It says that allowing same-sex couples to wed ?threatens subtly, but radically, to alter the meaning of marriage over time for everyone.?
The document says that it recognises that there are different views as to the status of marriage. ?We recognise that there is an alternative view of what constitutes the ?good? of marriage, and we understand that proponents of same sex marriage often adopt this alternative view, in good faith.
?Under this alternative view, the ?good? of marriage is that it fosters intimacy and care-giving for dependents, builds trust, and encourages openness, and shared responsibilities.?
The Church says: ?The basic argument that is advanced in favour of same sex marriage is one of equality and fairness. But we suggest that this intuitively appealing argument is fundamentally flawed. Those who argue for same sex marriage do so on the basis that it is unjust to treat same sex and heterosexual relationships differently in allowing only heterosexual couples access to marriage. Our principal argument against this is that it is not unequal or unfair to treat those in different circumstances differently. Indeed, to treat them the same would itself be unjust.?
The Catholic Church opposed the introduction of same-sex civil partnerships but it seems now to support the maintenance of a separate relationships system for same-sex couples. It points out that the Government is opposed to allowing opposite-sex couples to?have civil partnerships, despite support from those who responded to the official Home Office consultation.
The Church says: ? Catholic teaching, whilst it does not condone same sex sexual activity, condemns unfair discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. We note that same sex couples already effectively enjoy equivalent legal rights as heterosexual couples by virtue of the Civil Partnership Act 2004. A Civil Partnership in essence entitles a same sex couple to equivalent legal benefits, advantages and rights as heterosexual couples6 . Therefore the changes proposed in the Bill?are not needed in order to provide legal recognition to and protection for same sex relationships. Our opposition to same sex marriage is not based in discrimination or prejudice; it is based in a positive effort to ensure that the unique social values currently served by marriage carry on being served by that institution in the future.?
Despite referring to support in the official consultation to point out that the Government is ignoring support for straight civil partnerships, the Church says that the Government has ignored the 625,000 signatures to the Coalition for Marriage?s petition in favour of the 53% of those who responded to the Government.
The Church claimed that the no mainstream party had a policy to introduce equal marriage during the 2010 general election. The Conservative Party pledged to review the case for same-sex marriage in an equalities manifesto published before the election. The Catholic Church also warns of a ?slippery slope? saying that at the time civil partnerships were introduced that politicians promised that same-sex marriage wouldn?t follow. It is unclear what the Church imagines might become law next.
The Church also claim that the protections to prevent churches being forced to hold same-sex marriages will not adequately protect religious organisations or individuals. It claims that faith schools could be ?compelled? to teach about a definition of marriage which goes against the teachings of the?Church.

Jan. 27, 2013 ? A rustle of undergrowth in the outback: it's a sound that might make an animal or person stop sharply and be still, in the anticipation of a predator. That "freezing" is part of the fear response, a reaction to a stimulus in the environment and part of the brain's determination of whether to be afraid of it.
A neuroscience group at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) led by Assistant Professor Bo Li Ph.D., together with collaborator Professor Z. Josh Huang Ph.D., have just released the results of a new study that examines the how fear responses are learned, controlled, and memorized. They show that a particular class of neurons in a subdivision of the amygdala plays an active role in these processes.
Locating fear memory in the amygdala
Previous research had indicated that structures inside the amygdalae, a pair of almond-shaped formations that sit deep within the brain and are known to be involved in emotion and reward-based behavior, may be part of the circuit that controls fear learning and memory. In particular, a region called the central amygdala, or CeA, was thought to be a passive relay for the signals relayed within this circuit.
Li's lab became interested when they observed that neurons in a region of the central amygdala called the lateral subdivision, or CeL, "lit up" in a particular strain of mice while studying this circuit.
"Neuroscientists believed that changes in the strength of the connections onto neurons in the central amygdala must occur for fear memory to be encoded," Li says, "but nobody had been able to actually show this."
This led the team to further probe into the role of these neurons in fear responses and furthermore to ask the question: If the central amygdala stores fear memory, how is that memory trace read out and translated into fear responses?
To examine the behavior of mice undergoing a fear test the team first trained them to respond in a Pavlovian manner to an auditory cue. The mice began to "freeze," a very common fear response, whenever they heard one of the sounds they had been trained to fear.
To study the particular neurons involved, and to understand them in relation to the fear-inducing auditory cue, the CSHL team used a variety of methods. One of these involved delivering a gene that encodes for a light-sensitive protein into the particular neurons Li's group wanted to look at.
By implanting a very thin fiber-optic cable directly into the area containing the photosensitive neurons, the team was able to shine colored laser light with pinpoint accuracy onto the cells, and in this manner activate them. This is a technique known as optogenetics. Any changes in the behavior of the mice in response to the laser were then monitored.
A subset of neurons in the central amygdala controls fear expression
The ability to probe genetically defined groups of neurons was vital because there are two sets of neurons important in fear-learning and memory processes. The difference between them, the team learned, was in their release of message-carrying neurotransmitters into the spaces called synapses between neurons. In one subset of neurons, neurotransmitter release was enhanced; in another it was diminished. If measurements had been taken across the total cell population in the central amygdala, neurotransmitter levels from these two distinct sets of neurons would have been averaged out, and thus would not have been detected.
Li's group found that fear conditioning induced experience-dependent changes in the release of neurotransmitters in excitatory synapses that connect with inhibitory neurons -- neurons that suppress the activity of other neurons -- in the central amygdala. These changes in the strength of neuronal connections are known as synaptic plasticity.
Particularly important in this process, the team discovered, were somatostatin-positive (SOM+) neurons. Somatostatin is a hormone that affects neurotransmitter release. Li and colleagues found that fear-memory formation was impaired when they prevent the activation of SOM+ neurons.
SOM+ neurons are necessary for recall of fear memories, the team also found. Indeed, the activity of these neurons alone proved sufficient to drive fear responses. Thus, instead of being a passive relay for the signals driving fear learning and responses in mice, the team's work demonstrates that the central amygdala is an active component, and is driven by input from the lateral amygdala, to which it is connected.
"We find that the fear memory in the central amygdala can modify the circuit in a way that translates into action -- or what we call the fear response," explains Li.
In the future Li's group will try to obtain a better understanding of how these processes may be altered in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other disorders involving abnormal fear learning. One important goal is to develop pharmacological interventions for such disorders.
Li says more research is needed, but is hopeful that with the discovery of specific cellular markers and techniques such as optogenetics, a breakthrough can be made.

Overweight or obese kids have becoming an alarming epidemic across the globe. This problem is affecting households irrespective of class, color, sex and ethnicity. Children of both developing and developed nation are being affected with almost the same intensity. The extra pounds that these kids put on pose a greater health and emotional risk. They can be prone to diabetes, asthma and serious heart ailments. They can also suffer from mental stress because of the alienation from sports and other team activities, as well as possible teasing. They can also lack from enthusiasm and energy when it comes to do something.
One of the most important aspects of fighting obesity during childhood is to understand how they get those extra pounds in the first place. It is observed that mostly children these days are eating too much and not working out enough. More importantly they are hooked up to junk food and sweetened drinks more, which piles up lots of calories and hence those extra pounds. Moreover the situation might be complicated with more time spent idle using computers or video games, or TV or mobile phones. They might be missing out the good old running and sweating by physical exercise and not getting enough calories burned up. So here are a few tips and tricks that might help your child fight obesity and lead a healthy and active life.
#1. All for one and one for all:
Fighting obesity of a child and getting him or her back to correct shape and health is not someone?s lone responsibility. The best way to do it is to get the whole family involved. If the whole family starts eating healthy, and leads an active life, it will benefit everyone in the family. Moreover they will also become the role model of the child. Eat healthy and keep telling your child what you are eating, at times you can also discuss the positive effects of the food and offer him or her a bite too.
Try to have breakfast and lunch together. That will also show the children that all of you have the same food and also discuss the benefits of them too. Make low calorie snacks, and have healthy drinks like lemonade or fruit juices in the cooler. It is better to avoid those aerated and sweetened drinks.
#2. Watch your food & theirs too:
Most children these days are hooked to junk food and soft drinks that tend to pile up calories and those extra pounds.
Most children these days are hooked to junk food and soft drinks that tend to pile up calories and those extra pounds. So to fight your child from getting overweight it is always better to start healthy eating habits. Serve and encourage eating all vegetables and fruits. Best way is to indulge in eating fresh and seasonal vegetables and fruits as they boost up the immune system as well. Try to avoid the frozen foods as they tend to lose their food value and does not taste great most of the times. Also add enough roughage in the food. Use different colored vegetables to make the dish colorful and attractive. But make sure to use very little fat and oil to cook.
Use fish, nits and vegetables as a source of fats as they are also needed to keep one healthy.
Skipping breakfast or lunch is not a healthy way to lose weight. Make sure that your child has breakfast and lunch and does not remain hungry for too long. Skipping meals does more harm than you can imagine. Make sure that the child also sees you eating all those healthy food and knows their benefit as well.
Avoid junk food and drinks as much as possible and encourage children to do so. Treat them with something special when they do so.
While making snacks or dessert make sure that they are low calorie ones. There are many ways to make delicious low calorie desserts and snacks.
Also keep track of the portions that you are serving. It is better to have small portions over a gap of two to three hours instead of having a huge portion once.
#3. Make them sweat:
Make your children work. Let them run or jog or do physical exercise that makes calories burn. You can enroll them for swimming or martial arts or any form of sports that needs rigorous exercise. You can jog and ask them to cycle at a brisk pace with you, or they can run and you can cycle along with the, swimming is a very good option. Also gymnastics and other physically demanding and challenging sports can do a lot of good.
Do not idle yourself and lead an active life, this will help the children follow suit.
There are also some indoor games like badminton that can be very demanding physically. You can also indulge in gardening that can be physically demanding and keep you fit along with your children. Yoga can also be a good option. In case everything else has to be kept on hold for one thing or the other clean the house using the old broom and dusters with your kids.
#4. Reduce Screen time:
Limit the time your children spend in front of the television or the computer. Also limit their mobile phones. More they sit idle more they lose interest in physical activity. And without physical activity they definitely will add on those extra pounds. Take them to walks, parks and that will also do your health a lot of good.
Conclusion:
Your child may be already stressed because of his overweight or obesity. A drastic change in your lifestyle may add more to it. So do it in a slow and steady way and keep him informed about the changes in an informal way. Enroll him / her to some hobby that he/she likes as that has been seen to improve self esteem. Most importantly don?t get let down by love for your child, if you feel your child to be obese consult experts and then plan your moves accordingly. A healthy childhood can only lead to a healthy adulthood.

KONNA, Mali/PARIS (Reuters) - French and Malian forces fighting Islamist rebels took control on Saturday of the rebel bastion of Gao, the biggest military success so far in an offensive against al Qaeda-allied insurgents occupying the country's north.
The United States and Europe back the U.N.-mandated Mali operation as a counterstrike against the threat of radical Islamist jihadists using the West African state's inhospitable Sahara desert as a launching pad for international attacks.
In an overnight assault on Gao backed by French warplanes and helicopters, French special forces seized the town's airport and a key bridge over the River Niger, killing an estimated dozen Islamist fighters without suffering any losses or injuries, the French army said.
"The Malian army and the French control Gao today," Malian army spokesman Lieutenant Diaran Kone told Reuters.
The speed of the French action in a two-week-old campaign suggested French and Malian government troops intended to drive aggressively into the north of Mali in the next few days against other Islamist rebel strongholds, such as Timbuktu and Kidal.
There have been 30 French air strikes on militant targets around Gao and Timbuktu in the past 36 hours.
News that the French and Malian troops were at Gao, the largest northern town held by the Islamists, came as African states struggled to deploy their intervention force in Mali, known as AFISMA, under a U.N. mandate.
Regional army chiefs said on Saturday that a total of 7,700 African soldiers would be dispatched, up from 5,700.
Liberia, Guinea-Bissau, Burundi, Guinea and Uganda are due to join the mission but it was not clear if progress had been made at meetings in Abidjan or Addis Ababa to overcome gaps in transport, equipment and financing.
French army spokesman Colonel Thierry Burkhard said French forces had come under fire from rebel fighters inside Gao, but that both the bridge and airport runway were undamaged.
In Paris, the French defence ministry said Malian and French troop reinforcements were brought in and that soldiers from Chad and Niger, who have experience in desert warfare, were also flown in.
These Malian and regional troops would have the task of securing Gao and its surrounding area, the ministry said.
To the west, French forces recaptured Lere, on the road to Timbuktu, and were advancing, a Malian military source said, asking not be named.
For two weeks, French jets and helicopter gunships have been harrying the retreating Islamists, attacking their vehicles, command posts and weapons depots. The French action had stymied a sudden Islamist offensive launched in early January that had threatened Bamako, Mali's capital in the south of the country.
Reacting to the French-led offensive, one of the leaders of the alliance of Islamist groups occupying Mali's north promised resistance to what he called the "new Crusader aggression", in comments published by Al Jazeera's Arabic website.
Yahya Abu Al-Hamman, leader in the Sahel of al Qaeda's North African wing AQIM, which along with Malian militant group Ansar Dine and AQIM splinter MUJWA occupies Mali's north, said a "Jihadist Islamist emirate" would be created in the territory.
Washington and European governments, while providing airlift and intelligence support to the anti-militant offensive in Mali, are not planning to send in any combat troops.
FRANCE TAKING THE LEAD
At an African Union summit in Addis Ababa, AU leaders called on the United Nations to provide emergency logistics and funding to allow the African force for Mali to deploy.
AU officials say AFISMA is severely hampered by logistical shortages and needs airlift support, ammunition, telecoms equipment, field hospitals, food and water.
There appeared to be some embarrassment among African ministers and leaders that the continent was having to rely on a former colonial power, France, much criticised for past meddling in Africa, to take the lead in the military campaign in Mali.
Rwandan Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo said France's intervention was "justified".
"If Africa can't do it, somebody else should do it," Mushikiwabo told reporters on the sidelines of the summit.
France, which dispatched its military to Mali at the Bamako government's request, already has 2,500 soldiers on the ground in its former colony.
Around 1,900 African troops, including Chadians, have been deployed to Mali so far. Burkina Faso, Benin, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Niger and Chad are providing troops while Burundi and other African nations have pledged to contribute.
While the French and Malians thrust northeast in a two-pronged offensive towards Gao and Timbuktu, Chadian and local forces in neighbouring Niger are preparing a flanking thrust coming up from the south.
FRANCE: "LOT OF WORK" AHEAD
Malian army officers said the Islamist insurgents had pulled back to avoid deadly French air strikes.
"They are all hiding. They are leaving on foot and on motorcycles," Malian Army Captain Faran Keita told Reuters at Konna, about 500 km (310 miles) southeast of Gao.
Konna's capture by the Islamist insurgents on January 10 triggered the sudden French military intervention. Reporters there saw charred rebel pickup trucks that had been blasted by French air strikes. Munitions lay scattered about.
The question remained whether the Islamists would fight to hold Gao and Timbuktu or withdraw further north into the trackless desert wastes and mountain fastnesses of the Sahara.
"France can expel rebels from certain of the key towns but it cannot occupy and control the entire north Mali. North Mali is the size of France," Jakkie Cilliers, Executive Director of the Pretoria-based Institute for Security Studies, told Reuters.
On a visit to Chile, French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault admitted French forces in Mali still faced "a lot of work".
On Friday, the Islamists blew up a road bridge on the main road south from Gao to Niger, but military officials from Niger said the Chadian and Nigerien forces could still reach Gao by other routes when they advanced.
The AU is expected to seek hundreds of millions of dollars in logistical support and funding at a conference of donors for the Mali operation to be held in Addis Ababa on January 29.
NEW YORK (AP) ? The price of oil rose on Monday after a strong durable goods report in the U.S.
Demand for long-lasting manufactured goods rose sharply in December with gains in volatile aircraft orders, the Commerce Department said. But the number of pending home sales fell last month after hitting a 2 ? year high in November.
Benchmark oil rose 25 cents to $96.13 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
It's a big week for U.S. economic indicators. In addition to Monday's data, the government will release reports on weekly jobless claims, unemployment and fourth-quarter growth. And the Federal Reserve's policy committee holds a two-day meeting that concludes on Wednesday.
At the pump, the average price for a gallon of gas rose over the weekend to $3.35, the highest level since the second week of December.
Brent crude, used to price international varieties of oil, was down 27 cents to $113.01 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange in London.
In other energy futures trading on Nymex:
? Wholesale gasoline rose 5 cents to $2.94 per gallon.
? Natural gas fell 12 cents to $3.34 per 1,000 cubic feet.
? Heating oil was unchanged at $3.04 a gallon.

There were many exciting product announcements and prototypes demonstrated at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, but few so plentiful as next-generation gaming innovations. Whether you dedicate a large part of your free time to video games or are simply intrigued by the potential uses of virtual reality in computing, the show didn't disappoint.
Nvidia, known primarily as a manufacturer of graphics cards and chipsets, announced it is joining Nintendo DS and Playstation PSP with the Nvidia Shield. Project Shield is a handheld gaming device that resembles an Xbox controller with a flip-up screen.
The quad-core portable gaming system runs an Android open-platform operating system that Nvidia hopes will encourage game developers to create content, taking advantage of the device's advanced graphics capabilities.
You'll be able to play Android games or if you have a compatible Nvidia GTX graphics card in your PC, you can stream games over Wi-Fi. This enables users to continue a game on the couch or in bed that normally would have been tied to the computer.
The ability to play full-fledged PC games on a handheld unit is exciting, but you still must be within Wi-Fi range of the computer running the game. Not so with the Razer Edge gaming tablet. Available this February, the Windows 8 tablet has a processor and graphics chip capable of rendering current-generation PC game graphics never before accessible on a tablet. You can play full-graphic PC games on the device, even when you're offline.
The gaming tablet's main drawback is price: The basic version will start at $999, significantly more than your average tablet.
An optional snap-on game pad controller case adds side controllers, so you can use controls with your thumbs while holding the tablet like a steering wheel. A mouse and keyboard are available for more traditional functionality.
Nvidia had good news for those who already own a tablet but lack onboard graphics processing. It unveiled Nvidia Grid, an integrated system that will let users access games stored in the Cloud, not their devices. They'll be able to play high-resolution games on a multitude of devices ? even those that lack a graphics chip for games ? by streaming over the Internet.
Nvidia Grid will render graphics in the cloud. Imagine playing "World of Warcraft" on a tablet, for example, even one with a slower processor and/or weak graphics processing ability. Your gaming will be limited only by your Internet connection's stability and your screen's resolution.
Finally, the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset makes you feel as if you're stepping inside your video game. Once you've lifted the black box to your eyes like binoculars and strapped it to your head, it uses multiple sensors to measure your head's movement. That motion translates to how your character moves in 3-D space.
Only a prototype was available at the electronics show. The Oculus Rift will ship to software developers in March so they can create content. There's no hint when it will hit store shelves or how much it will cost.
But effective virtual reality carries a wealth of other technological possibilities, from improving the computing abilities of the mobility impaired to enabling remote work for mechanics, surgeons and other hands-on professionals. Virtual reality is sure to change our interactions with gadgets in years to come.

Homes, particularly those for sale or just sold, often need remodeling and repairs. Because of this, contractors are hired out to complete tasks that range from detailing floor boards to a full-blown basement renovation.
Real estate agents have clients that contractors can help, and contractors have clients that are looking to sell. A winning situation for both parties which can maximizes profits and stimulates the housing market. In 2013, as we hope the economy recovers, real estate agents and contractors can and should work together to promote each other?s businesses.
* Research
If you are a contractor, take note of the popular real estate agents in your area. After gathering some information and doing some research, reach out to realtors who tend to work on the market level you work within. A contractor who is mainly carrying out projects dealing with houses on the high-end of the market would be aiming for a real estate agent dealing with a similar clientele. A real estate agent primarily working with college apartments would be looking for a contractor doing more apartment-style renovations, and vice-versa.
Before any legitimate trust between a real estate agent and a contractor can be forged, proper research and analysis must be carried out. Without doing the dirty work, the relationship will not be lucrative for either party involved. Legitimate investigation will make the outreach and potential partnership worth the time and effort.
The bottom line here is to pick your spots before making a move. Ideal matches in any business are hard to come by, and contractor realtor relationships are no different. Take your time, and it will pay off.
* Initiate Partnerships
When prospective targets have been found, someone has to initiate contact. The best practice for this step is to head straight for the source. First impressions for business partnerships are just as important, if not more, than other connections in life. Entering into a commitment in the home improvement or real estate industry is a significant process, and should be handled as such.
A specific way to do this is to go straight for real estate offices. Not email or phone, but in person. Wait until they have a second, and approach them. Important items to have with you are client reviews and/or any promotional material like a brochure you may have. This will provide them with a look at your physical face, along with all of the information they need to understand your services. Introduce yourself and present your case for mutual interest in a couple minutes, following up a couple days later over the phone.
The bottom line here is to capitalize on your research. Choose your words carefully while making sure the real estate agent understands you are there for a mutual venture, and not to poach clients.
* Follow Through
A business partnership is only as successful as it is long lasting. It is important to follow through on what was agreed upon and expected. If you are a contractor who has entered an agreement with a real estate agent, be loyal and genuine in all interaction. The reason is not primarily business-wise, but for this conversation it is. Being truthful and upfront with a business partner, in this case, a real estate professional, can lead to a larger and more loyal client base.
Doing quality work is also part of following through. The first mutually shared clients between you and the realtor are very crucial to the backbone of your business partnership. If your agent has a couple who is looking to sell at a price higher than market value, but they need a quick upgrade to make it happen, it is your job to make sure it gets done. Go the extra mile on the first few clients, because in a rebounding housing market a realtor?s client base can be a contractor?s best friend.
The bottom line here is to understand and abide by the parameters agreed upon. Treat your business partner with the respect that they deserve. Not only are the two or more of you sharing time, but you are sharing business and resources. Following through on everything from agreements to labor will make the partnership last far beyond 2013.
*******
Contractors and Real Estate Agents have a lot in common. Client base is one major similarity between the two industries. Not only do contractors and realtors working together expand business, clients too can find greater ease working with such partnerships. Everything becomes simpler when resources are shared.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The euro hit an 11-month high and global shares rose on Friday on signs of a healthier European financial system and a brighter outlook for Germany, while U.S. stocks extended a rally in the benchmark S&P 500 index to an eighth successive session.
Solid U.S. corporate earnings and the strongest seasonal inflows into U.S. stock mutual funds in a decade also helped lift Wall Street, as the S&P 500 briefly topped the 1,500 mark for a second day in a row, a level last reached in late 2007.
"We are seeing a very broad-based rally and the ingredients are still in place" for gains to continue, said Steve Goldman, principal at Goldman Management in Short Hills, New Jersey. "This is the lift-off phase and it's still significant."
Data showing new U.S. single-family home sales fell in December was not a cause for concern on Wall Street as the median sales price rose and the sector still appears set to be a bright spot in the U.S. economy's recovery.
The Commerce Department raised its estimate for sales in November by 22,000 to a 398,000-unit rate, making the sales pace for the month the fastest since April 2010. Government data for new home sales are subject to substantial revisions.
Global shares as measured by MSCI's all-country world equity index rose 0.41 percent to 354.08.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 22.30 points, or 0.16 percent, at 13,847.63. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 1.94 points, or 0.13 percent, at 1,496.76. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.89 points, or 0.25 percent, at 3,138.27.
Among companies beating analysts' expectations, Procter & Gamble Co's quarterly profit blew past expectations and
Honeywell International Inc posted earnings just above Wall Street estimates.
P&G rose 3.69 percent to $73.02, but Honeywell slipped 0.18 percent to $68.13.
Of companies in the S&P 500 that have reported earnings to date for the fourth quarter of last year, 68 percent have beaten analysts' expectations, slightly higher than the 65 percent average over the previous four quarters.
Sentiment across riskier asset markets rose earlier in the session when the European Central Bank said euro zone banks would repay 137 billion euros in emergency loans early.
By taking back the three-year loans after only one year, the ECB has become the first major central bank to start moving away from unconventional monetary policy measures to tackle the crisis. By contrast, the U.S. Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan are buying bonds to stimulate economic growth.
The scale of the repayment, which beat the average estimate of around 100 billion euros in a Reuters poll, sent the euro higher, pushed German government bond prices down and boosted bank stocks across the euro zone.
"This is more than we had expected and underlines the material improvement in funding conditions for most European banks in the past 12 months," said Michael Symonds, a credit analyst at Daiwa Capital Markets.
The euro hit $1.3471, its highest since February 2012, to extend gains following the release of data showing the German economy gathering speed again after contracting late last year. The euro last traded up 0.7 percent at $1.3468.
The FTSEurofirst 300 index of pan-European shares was up 0.15 percent at 1,172.64 points, buoyed by a report that showed the Ifo think tank's business climate index rose in January to its highest level since June.

Oil prices rose above $113 a barrel as robust economic data from the United States, China and Germany lifted the outlook for global fuel demand.
Manufacturing in China and the United States grew this month at the quickest pace in about two years.
Brent crude rose 8 cents to $113.36 a barrel. U.S. crude fell 13 cents to $95.82.
U.S. Treasury debt yields rose, with 30-year bonds trading a point lower in price after better-than-expected euro zone data spurred selling of safe-haven U.S. government debt.
The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note was down 18/32 in price to yield 1.9148 percent.

(Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel waded into a burgeoning debate about currency wars on Thursday, singling out Japan as a source of concern following recent moves by its central bank to quicken the pace of money-printing.
Central bankers in advanced countries, notably Japan and the United States, have been pursuing aggressive action to reflate their economies. This has the effect of weakening their currencies.
"I am not completely without worry," Merkel said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, when asked whether currency manipulation risked distorting competition.
"I don't want to say that I look towards Japan completely without concern at the moment," she added. "It is known that in Germany we are of the opinion that central banks are not there to clean up political bad decisions and a lack of competitiveness."
The Bank of Japan is under pressure from the country's new Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to take bolder action to overcome deflation and lift the economy out of recession. In recent months it has expanded its asset-buying programme and this week it doubled its inflation target to 2 percent.
The head of Germany's Bundesbank joined other central bankers this week in warning about the risk of competitive devaluations - countries encouraging their currencies to weaken in order to boost the attractiveness of home-grown products.
Jaime Caruana, general manager of the Bank for International Settlements, told Reuters Insider television in a Davos interview that central banks were coming under "excessive pressure" to promote growth and weaken currencies.
Merkel said it was important for central banks to set limits, as she said the European Central Bank had done in announcing its own bond-buying programme last year that is conditional on economic reforms.
"Central banks, too, will not be able to solve structural problems that stem from political decisions. They can build bridges," Merkel said.
"The European Central Bank has contributed to this but the ECB has also made clear, only those who implement structural reforms and accept conditionality, can hope for our support."
She said politicians in Europe now had an obligation to act, as the ECB had bought them time.
The 58-year-old German leader appeared to reject suggestions by other officials at Davos that Europe's austerity drive had gone far enough. She said politicians sometimes needed the pressure of a crisis to push through difficult reforms.
"My conclusion is therefore that if Europe is in a difficult situation today, we must implement the structural reforms today so we can live better tomorrow."
Yet she also referred to youth unemployment as Europe's "biggest burden" and said steps may be necessary to prevent political and social instability from breaking out.
"Our main task must be to present perspectives and possibly even to provide bridging measures until they lead to a decline in unemployment. That's what the near future is about," Merkel said.
This week's news that Tradeshift, the business interactions and e-invoicing platform, has taken a 'multi-million' pound strategic investment from legacy accounting software maker Intuit is bound to have made others in the accounting software space sit up and take notice. One such player is the UK's KashFlow who, in what could be perceived as a feisty move, has announced that it's integrated with Tradeshift to enable SMBs who use its cloud-based accounting software to accept and issue e-invoices through the latter's platform.
HIV-like viruses in non-human primates have existed much longer than previously thoughtPublic release date: 24-Jan-2013 [ | E-mail | Share ]

Viruses similar to those that cause AIDS in humans were present in non-human primates in Africa at least 5 million years ago and perhaps up to 12 million years ago, according to study published January 24 in the Open Access journal PLOS Pathogens by scientists at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Until now, researchers have hypothesized that such viruses originated much more recently.
HIV-1, the virus responsible for AIDS, infiltrated the human population in the early 20th century following multiple transmissions of a similar chimpanzee virus known as SIVcpz. Previous work to determine the age of HIV-like viruses, called lentiviruses, by comparing their genetic blueprints has calculated their origin to be tens of thousands of years ago.
However, other researchers have suspected this time frame to be much too recent. Michael Emerman, Ph.D., a virologist and member of the Human Biology Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Alex Compton, a graduate student in the Emerman Lab, describe the use of a technique to estimate the extent to which primates and lentiviruses have coexisted by tracking the changes in a host immunity gene called APOBEC3G that were induced by ancient viral challenges.
They report that this host immunity factor is evolving in tandem with a viral gene that defends the virus against APOBEC3G, which allowed them to determine the minimum age for the association between primates and lentiviruses to be around 5 or 6 million years ago, and possibly up to 12 million years ago.
These findings suggest that HIV-like infections in primates are much older than previously thought, and they have driven selective changes in antiviral genes that have incited an evolutionary arms race that continues to this day. The study also confirms that viruses similar to HIV that are present in various monkey species today are the descendants of ancient pathogens in primates that have shaped how the immune system fights infections.
"More than 40 non-human primate species in sub-Saharan Africa are infected with strains of HIV-related viruses," Emerman said. "Since some of these viruses may have the potential to infect humans as well, it is important to know their origins."
