In May of 2011, 30-year-old Ryan Woods was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in his spinal cord.? Despite his diagnosis, friends said he continued to hold community meals in his downtown Vancouver neighborhood, promoting a movement of service towards others. He passed away in Vancouver on Nov. 7.
Woods was featured on an installment of ?My Last Days,? a show co-created by Wilson through his media company SoulPancake. The series focuses on people facing terminal illnesses who refuse to give up on life. The show highlighted Ryan Woods' love of family and community in his last days.
"We're all in the process of dying,? said Woods in an interview for My Last Days. ?So, the question is, what kind of story are we going to live out as we're dying? I just invite people to live out beautiful music despite what kind of brokenness they have to deal with."
Wilson was so moved by Woods' story, he shared a video message online asking the public to help and support the Woods' family.
Friends said Woods was a pastor who worked to bring people in the community together.? They said he encouraged others to love and live sincerely.? Woods also kept a blog in which he shared what it was like living with terminal cancer.
Woods leaves behind a loving wife and two children.
According to its website, SoulPancake sprang out of a desire to create a space where people from all walks of life could discuss and question what it means to be human.
